The May Day Project
Celebrate May Day with Labor of Love
It’s been a long year for all of us, especially for our seniors, many of whom have been isolated from friends and family. We invite you to make a difference in a seniors’ day, or someone in your world who is in need of a little love, and celebrate brighter days ahead for us all with a May Day Basket!
The May Day basket is a lovely tradition with a long history and we think it is time to bring it back! When life was slower, and in some ways sweeter, people would gather their flowers after April’s showers had passed, arranging them in little baskets with candies and treats. On May 1, communities would meet with their baskets and hang them on their neighbors’ doors as a symbol of the arrival of Spring and a token of friendship.
We invite you to create May Day baskets, which can be as simple as a few flowers from your garden placed in a paper "cone," hanging from a ribbon; a basket with flowers and candies, or even a small plant, whatever strikes your fancy! For more details, see the seven simple steps to spread the kindness on May 1!
Our hope is to see baskets delivered in as many cities around the world to as many loved ones, neighbors, local care home residents, or hospital patients as possible.
Let’s make this viral! Invite your friends to join you in the May Day plan!
We would love to hear how many hearts were touched on May 1. Please share your photos, your city, and how many hearts were touched by your generosity by tagging us on IG and FB! #MayDayBasketLOL
